  • This dissertation investigates the ethno-communicational practices of the Yanomami on Twitter, focusing on the “Fora Garimpo, Fora Covid” campaign. Drawing from the 2022 Census data, the study highlights Roraima as the Brazilian state with the highest proportion of indigenous people, with a special focus on the Yanomami Land, the country's largest indigenous territory and the epicenter of the campaign. The research examines the devastating impact of illegal mining in Yanomami Land, highlighting environmental contamination, disease spread, and violence against indigenous peoples. The study scrutinizes the “Fora Garimpo, Fora Covid” campaign, launched by the Yanomami and Ye’kwana Leadership Forum, utilizing Twitter as a tool for political pressure and social engagement. The main objective is to analyze the communication strategy of the campaign on Twitter and to understand the significance of ethno-communication in defending the rights of the peoples of Yanomami Land. The research maps the discourse of spokesperson Dário Kopenawa Yanomami, investigating the reception and effects of Twitter posts, as well as evaluating the campaign's outcomes. The dissertation also reflects on communication in the Brazilian Amazon, from the perspective of the researcher, who works as a journalist in Roraima and advises Yanomami leadership. The study addresses the historical context of the Yanomami, the invasion of illegal mining, the Covid-19 pandemic, and strategies of communication and digital activism. Methodologically, the research adopts a trans-methodological approach, incorporating historical, cultural, ethnographic, and practical perspectives. The analytical focus is on the discourses and interactions on Twitter during the campaign, using the hashtag #foragarimpoforacovid as a quantitative indicator. The dissertation concludes with an evaluation of the campaign's outcomes and their implications for ethno-communication and the defense positivy of indigenous rights.

  • mining polycrisis, in web reports on the Folha Web, G1 Roraima, Roraima em Tempo and Correio do Lavrado websites. The research takes into account the question of how the polycrisis in mining in Roraima can be solved, considering the ways in which local web journalism contributes through the technique of the lying pyramid, in the interpreted exposition of panoramas and perspectives of various crises, taking into account the intersubjectivities and discursive surpluses of unofficial sources and other sources, as well as how researchers can fill gaps in this journalistic interpretation. To this end, it considers that mining is practiced by subjects with a work organization, and is a social activity with impacts on humans and non-humans. For this reason, the purpose of journalistic coverage of the mining activity should indicate causes, consequences, gaps and solutions, observing the present panorama and future prospects. In addition, this work pays attention to the fact that crises can be conceived as a polycrystalline set of interconnected instabilities, in which one crisis is preponderant, being integrated with "correlates", each characterized by factors and effects, generating problems if "gaps" affect this relationship. This research takes into account the assumption that ambivalence inserts cultural differentiation into the same discourses, as it anticipates the meaning of another individual. Each source of information objectifies the facts about maning from its own perspective, as well as instigating other subjectivities in relation to these facts. Therefore, the subject's discursive construction is made up of interference from the other, through the ambivalence of meanings. Therefore, the study shows that the websites Folha Web, G1 Roraima, Roraima em Tempo and Correio do Lavrado subject unofficial sources to the hierarchy of discourses in journalism, in relation to other subjects, being subordinated and presupposed by other types of sources, through ambivalence of meanings. The instabilities converge, encompassing socio-political, socio-economic and socio-environmental factors, which disproportionately affect the poorest part of the population. In addition, it shows that the portals stick to the factuality of the news, making it difficult to link facts to explanations and solutions to the problem, making it difficult to confront the discourse on mineral exploitation and the broad debate on the problem.

  • This research examines how the documentary film "Por onde anda Makunaíma?" contributes to the understanding of the various narratives surrounding the indigenous myth of Makunaíma and how they differ from the fictional narratives of the eponymous character. Drawing on the epistemology of rhizomatic cartography, it seeks to identify the singularities that delineate the indigenous territorialities of Makunaíma, using the narratives of the artist Jaider Esbell as a plateau for analysis and the production of subjectivity. Incorporating the researcher's own experiences during the production and distribution of the documentary, the study also analyzes the film corpus, detailing sequences, scenes, shots, testimonial content, and narrative strategies within the scope of the script, direction, production, and editing that contribute to the debate on indigenous territorialities in contemporary contexts. Thus, the guiding problem of the research is formulated as follows: How are Makunaima indigenous territorialities articulated in Jaider Esbell's narratives through the documentary "Por onde anda Makunaíma? Through the research, we observe a mythical Makunaíma present in the culture of the indigenous peoples living in the Brazil-Venezuela-Guyana border region, ethnographed by the German Theodor Koch-Grünberg, who used the spelling Makunaíma; a literary Makunaíma as a popular character in Brazilian literature, created by the modernist author Mário de Andrade; a fictional cinematic Makunaíma as a character in films; a fictional performative Makunaíma as a theatrical character; and finally, the character constructed by Jaider Esbell, who presents himself as Makunaima's grandson through his artistic and literary works disseminated on social media platforms.

  • This work seeks to analyze the presence of female journalists in Roraima newspapers from the time of the ex-territories (1943) until the transformation of Roraima into a State, in 1988. To understand the panorama, the contents published in the newspapers O Átomo were analyzed , Jornal Boa Vista, Folha de Vista and A Gazeta de Roraima, evaluating the role of female journalists based on the cartography of newspapers of the period and oral reports of characters who worked in these periodicals, which leads us to reflect on these events in terms of Amazonian territorialities. It is understood that, at the end of the work, the objective of analyzing the different territorialities of the Press on the female presence in the printed newspapers of the Federal Territories of Rio Branco and Roraima (1943-1988) was reached, reaching the conclusion that the woman journalist and the territory are part of an ambivalent relationship, and that they directly influenced the experience and construction of the territory. Responding to the research problem, it is understood that talking about territory will always be linked to the notion of power and that territoriality goes beyond the physical space, since the performance of women journalists in the territory of Roraima, even with the identified silencing, helped to improve the quality of life of the territory where they lived. Finally, we believe that the strength of the result of this research, collaborates in understandings regarding research on topics such as memory of journalism, and journalism made by women, making a contribution to academia and society.

  • The called “ventilator scandal” was an episode that marked the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic in Roraima, when the State Government admitted the anticipated and overpriced purchase of essential equipment for the survival of serious patients of the disease. The admission only came after the denunciation made by the press and demands on social networks. This research seeks to understand the social reactions to the case and the reasons that resulted in the absence of public manifestations that would generate severe, political and institutional consequences for the managers responsible for the budget of the State Health Department and the governor, even though the case was widely reported by the media. The research brings together publications about the “scandal of respirators” from the two main news portals in the state, FOLHABV and Roraima em Tempo, which belong to opposing political groups. The analysis finds theoretical support in the study of three key concepts: Public Sphere, as a place (physical or digital) for exercising public debate, in search of public opinion; Fourth Power, exercised by the press as supervisor and supplier of information that can base public opinion; and social accountability, when the press becomes a mechanism in which the rulers are summoned to answer, for their acts and omissions before the governed. The methodology employed is Content Analysis by Laurence Bardin, through four categories: (1) Type of news; (2) Types of fonts; (3) Journalistic Resources; (4) Indications of Accountability. From the database, eight reports were selected for textual analysis with the respective inferences. Among the results found, it is verified that the press contributes and enables the emergence of behaviors linked to vertical accountability, but that to provoke the social format it is necessary to have other factors.

  • This Dissertation brings as object of study the memory and identity of the Roraima
student movement through the newspapers of the União Roraimense de Estudantes
Secundaristas (URES), founded on July 27, 1952, with the name União
Riobranquense de Estudantes Secundaristas, at the time that the State of Roraima
was still the Federal Territory of Rio Branco. For this, the printed newspapers were
chosen as research sources: “A Gazeta Estudantil (1955), “O Estudantil (1960-1964)”
and “O Movimento (1997-2001). Newspapers under the responsibility of URES,
which had cycles: the first starting with the founding of URES in 1952 until 1964,
when the civil-military coup took place. The second subdivided into two stages, which
begins in 1988 with the reconstruction of URES, until 2001 when the last printed
edition of the newspaper “O Movimento” circulated. And the second stage with the
emergence of other student organizations culminating, politically, with the election in
2022 of the President of the Republic Luís Inácio Lula da Silva. The research
identifies the challenges faced by newsrooms: actors, routines, production,
convergences, materialities, language, products, circulation and strategies used by
the teams in the newspapers' circulation periods. In this way, the collection is made
up of materials, editorials and signed articles that allowed us to (re)constitute
elements of memory and identity of students from Roraima. The theoretical field on
which the study was based was based on the axes: communication theories, theory
of social movements, in addition to collective memory, social identity. In order to
understand the construction process of identity and memory of the Roraima student
movement, we went through the paths of mediation that the newsletter made with
this segment of the social movement. Moreover, the context of social relations is
supported by the dialectical historical materialism proposed by Marx & Engels (1977),
as it allows us to study the local society in which the student movement acted in
different cycles. The research approach is of a qualitative nature through the use of
techniques that allowed examining and problematizing the newspapers of the time,
as well as the use of interviews with people who participated in the editorial teams of
the newsletter, in addition to members who made up the board of URES. In this way,
it is possible to infer that the performance of the Roraima student movement was
(and still is) part of the debate and of the action itself as a Social Movement in the
Amazon, in this case, I try to see students as protagonists of their struggles, utopias
    and/or needs.

  • The dissertation “Voices of memory: From the foundation to the process of political transition of the State (1957-1991)”, had the intention of knowing the history of Rádio Roraima through the memory of people, professionals and listeners, and their perceptions about the role of the station in the culture and identity of the Roraima people. The central question of the research was to discover what the oral memory of the agents involved in the operation of Rádio Roraima revealed about the political crossings in radio practices. The general objective was to tell, through the memories of these agents, the political transformations that were part of the construction of the history of Rádio Difusora de Roraima in the period from 1957 to 1991. of tensions, but also what was consonant between oral and documented history in the trajectory of the radio, also based on official documents and newspapers that circulated in the period. As a method, exploratory and descriptive, bibliographical and documental multimethodological research was used, as well as semi-structured interviews. The specific objectives of recording the history of Rádio Roraima and the memory of professionals/former directors on the subject, identifying the reports of the agents involved and contributing to the documentation of the history and memory of Rádio Roraima were fulfilled. • This research organizes and analyzes the activities made by indigenous communicators of Roraima, between 2020 and 2021, following the first steps of the Wakywai Network, through the production of digital content for Facebook, on the pages “Indigenous Social Communication - Ethno Region Serra da Lua” and “Indigenous Council of Roraima”. It pursues what can be called the digital territoriality of the indigenous peoples of the Amazon, who adopt cyberspace as a strategy to fight for citizenship, recognition and ethnic strengthening, just like some other experiences in Latin America. This study promotes some methodological innovations, given the need to carry out experiments that encourage dialogues between the academic and traditional knowledge of indigenous peoples and a more collaborative construction with the research subjects, as a way of seeking greater coherence and deepening on the theme of indigenous communicators and their leading roles. The research highlights the role of communication developed by the Wakywai Network as a power added to the indigenous movement, through strategies of other visibilities and resistance to the various forms of oppression suffered secularly by indigenous peoples

  • The subject of the research is the coverage of illegal mining by Folha de Boa Vista, in
Roraima. The newspaper Folha de Boa Vista, through its journalists, frequently
denounces the activities of miners. Inserted in the context of environmental
journalism, the research analyzes reports based on biographism, a biographical
method of investigating the subject's field and understanding the extent of their
experiences and senses, and autobiographism, since the researcher acts in the
context. Folha de Boa Vista itself ends up being biographed as an institution that has
knowledge of the cause, journalistic precision and ecological ethics, precepts of
advocacy journalism. The newspaper highlights in its reports the commitment to the
environmental cause. Based on participant observation, the research brings an
experience report considering the role of the researcher as a doctor and journalist. It
appears that journalistic coverage is given by professionals committed to the cause,
denouncing illegal mining. The experience report corroborates the journalistic
coverage of Folha de Boa Vista.

  • This dissertation was designed based on the importance of Law 12.527/2011, which provides for the Access to Information Law (LAI) for communication in the Legislative Assemblies of the North. The objective is to analyze the use of the Access to Information Law by the communication offices of the legislative assemblies in Northern Brazil, from January 2020 to 2022, verifying the way in which the law is used to respond to the production of the matter; identify the most accessed topics, the areas investigated by the legislature, in addition to surveying the number of demands, their nature, which were met and the deadline for compliance. The methodology applied was qualitative-quantitative, documental in addition to content analysis of what was found during the research. An analysis was also made of the transparency portals of the states in search of information on the population's access to public information. By carrying out such a survey, it was possible to reinforce hypotheses about the relationship between the Northern legislature and the press, with the problem of verifying how the LAI interfered in the relationship between the press and politics and in the image that society makes of the legislative assemblies. during this time frame. It is concluded that in order to build a true democracy, clear and transparent access to public information is essential, as well as greater popular participation, thus strengthening democratic systems.

  • The year of 2020, devastated by the pandemic of COVID-19, marked the beginning of great challenges in human life, affecting private and public dimensions, in different perspectives of social, political and cultural relations. This current research analyzes the involuntary reconfigurations of local television news as result of this context, by the experience of the program ‘Assembleia Informa’ from the Legislative TV of the State of Roraima. The theoretical basis seeks in cultural studies and in the mediation of technology, the articulation between cultural and technological specifics in order to understand the reinvention of ways of doing and participating in the processes of news development in this scenario, in which the threat of the virus changes the field of social interactions. A question is being asked on its concerning: In which way the restriction of the Health world order has affected the Assembly’s telejournalism, based on the study of practices from ‘Informa’ TV program? How does the mediation technicality help to notice changes in the production process of television news due to a pandemic context? The research is based on the method of participant observation, placed from March to August of 2020, and on conducting researches with press professionals who follow this time frame since the pandemic’s arrival until the numbers of contagious and deaths getting worse and so, an stricter implementation of social isolation measures that affected the journalistic activities’ routines. This theme’s approach confirmed the reactive telejournalism behaviour and technology’s core place as a strategy in this cultural context.

  • Starting from the point of view that the media's representation of animals can
influence people's opinions and behavior towards them, the objective of this research is to
find out how the journalistic reports on the G1 Roraima portal build the discourse of
domestication and domesticity among humans and domestic animals. Based on this general
question, we will carry out a theoretical review of the works of classical and modern
philosophers and theologians to understand and explain how human thinking in relation to
animals has been changing and undergoing alterations, until reaching the way in which we
deal with them today. Then, we will resume the concept of environmental journalism, its
principles, techniques and objectives to serve as a basis for analysis of the environment, with
regard to the space occupied by humans and domestic animals and the relationship between
human and non-human animals in that space. The third part of the research consists of
analyzing the journalistic discourse of five reports from the G1 Roraima portal to verify the
focus given to the human-animal relationship and understand how the media represents this
relationship, and whether there is an anthropocentric focus of domination in these works,
reflecting on the ideological and social aspects prioritized by the chosen news, and on the
roles played by domestic animals in our society. For that, we use the post-phenomenological
method of analysis of the journalistic discourse and analyze the perspectives of the sources
and which are the dominant discourses. The human-animal relationship with regard to pets is
a subject little explored in journalism. Taking into account the lack of studies in the area, we
intend to contribute, through this research, as a bibliographic source for future debates and
    reflections on the subject.

impressa ajudou a moldar e foi moldada pelas atividades políticas regionais.
