The Geography of International Migration of Venezuelans in Brazil
Venezuelan migration. International migration. Media and migration. Geography and migration.
This work deals with international migratory movements, especially the international movement of Venezuelan immigrants and refugees. The general aim of this research is to contribute to the production of scientific knowledge on the complexity surrounding the migratory phenomenon, analyzing it from an interdisciplinary perspective. Its specific objectives are therefore to: (1) contextualize the beginning of the migratory flow of Venezuelans in order to understand its motivation; (2) characterize the way in which researchers have produced knowledge about human migratory movements so far through an analysis of Migration Theories, thus establishing part of the theoretical-conceptual basis and achieving its specific objective; (3) to understand, based on the intertextuality present in the main studies discussed in the previous objectives, the representations forged about the migratory flow of Venezuelans to the state of Roraima and thus understand the dynamics of the (re)production of Roraima's territory with the arrival of migrants. There are three grounds for the development of this research. The phenomenological justification is based on the reflection of the migratory flow of Venezuelans to Brazil, specifically to the territory of Roraima from 2018 onwards, which passes another historical milestone - the SARS-CoV-19 pandemic (2020 to 2023). The scientific justification is based on the fact that this theme has a high visibility, but a low number of studies focused on the Amazon region, thus intending to contribute to filling this gap. On a personal level, it is based on my professional and academic experience, where I have worked as a humanitarian professional since the beginning of Operation Welcome, as well as my contact with this subject in research and publications. The methodological procedures used are characterized in their nature as an exploratory, descriptive and explanatory study in terms of ends and qualitative-qualitative in terms of means, using the historical-theoretical-deductive method. The methodological procedures used to gather data included a bibliographical and documentary review, as well as a survey of journalistic texts which resulted in the construction of a newspaper library. In turn, the data analysis procedures were based on geographical, internationalist and journalistic hermeneutics, based on theoretical clippings and graphic and geospatial analysis
