PERCEPTIONS ABOUT ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS AT THE FEDERAL INSTITUTE OF RORAIMA, FAR NORTH OF BRAZIL
Environmental health. Adolescence. Perception. Behavior. Education Environmental.
Adolescence represents a period of significant development for the subject, characterized by the search for new knowledge and values. In this context, the global ecological crisis stands out as a crucial point and thus directs teenagers to adopt activist and questioning stances. From this perspective, environmental health, which comprises the set of elements that influence the individual's health condition, by including psychological and biological aspects allows verifying the relationship between the impact of the relationship between human beings and the environment. Therefore, it corroborates the importance of environmental health education so that adolescents recognize nature as a diverse space and adopt sustainable practices. In the school context, the approach to environmental issues needs to be reviewed, especially in regions such as the Amazon, so that students can take decisive stances in the face of the environmental crisis and develop an interest in environmental themes. Therefore, this study's general objective is to characterize the environmental health perception of young students at the Federal Institute of Roraima, while the specific objectives include: describing the sociodemographic profile of IFRR students; evaluate the environmental behavior of participants; verify the existence of an association between sociodemographic factors, environmental perception and behavior of IFRR students and verify the existence of any discipline in the IFRR high school curriculum that addresses the themes of environmental education and/or environmental health. A cross-sectional, observational and analytical design, with a quantitative approach, will be used as a methodological approach. The study will take place at IFRR on the Boa Vista, Amajarí and Bonfim campuses. When it comes to the study population, it will be made up of students between 14 and 17 years old in the 1st year of technical courses integrated into high school in aquaculture, agriculture, agroecology, administration, electronics, electrical engineering, buildings, IT and secretarial services under the full IFRR regime. . The total study sample comprises 327 students, of which 177 will take part in the research. Data collection will be through a questionnaire adapted from a validated instrument. Therefore, students will be selected for voluntary participation, after signing the Free and Informed Consent Form (TCLE) by their parents or guardians and the Free and Informed Assent Form (TALE) by the students. The data will be analyzed in the Microsoft Excel® 2013 program and in EpiInfo 7®, including descriptive analysis and statistical tests to compare means and proportions, such as the Student's t test, as long as the equivalence of sample variances is guaranteed, otherwise the test will be used. Mann-Whitney. To compare proportions, the chi-square test will be used. The study will be submitted for approval by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Roraima and will therefore guarantee ethical and legal aspects, such as confidentiality and informed consent by the participants. The project aims to contribute to a better understanding of adolescents' environmental health perception and behavior by providing support for future educational interventions and promotion of sustainable practices.
