SUMMARY:

Conversation analysis emerged in the 1960s, through the work of Harvey Sacks, Emmanuel Schegloff and Gail Jefferson (1974), focusing on the description of structures, the organization of conversations and interactional gestures in institutional contexts. Around 1980, the scenarios were diversified and expanded to include descriptions and interpretations of speakers' ways of acting and interpreting in relation to others in more spontaneous interactions. In Brazil, conversation analysis began in 1997, introduced by linguist Luiz Antônio Marcuschi. Conversation is a practice in our daily lives, which allows us to speak and interact in different contexts of society. This study proposes to analyze the conversation between traffic agents and Venezuelans in DETRAN/RR traffic inspection approaches and its specific objectives are 1) to describe how the conversation between agents and drivers takes place, 2) to understand how the interaction takes place between interlocutors, 3) as well as identifying communicative difficulties between them. Due to the mass immigration of Venezuelans in the state of Roraima, it has been common for traffic agents to encounter immigrants driving vehicles from Brazil or Venezuela. During the approach, the driver and vehicle documents are requested and checked. If there are irregularities, the driver is informed of the appropriate procedures that will be adopted. To achieve this, there must be communication and interaction between the agent and the person being approached, with both parties needing to understand each other so that there is no misunderstanding, considering that, as they speak different languages, there may be communicative difficulties. The research is based on conversation analysis, through a qualitative approach, based on theorists such as: Kerbrat-Orecchioni (2006), Marcuschi (2003), Timbane (2013), Teixeira (2007), among others; which will provide us with the necessary data to understand how the interaction between those involved in this study takes place. To this end, data were collected from two traffic approaches: 1 and 2, to analyze the conversation between the interlocutors, who were categorized into: inspection agents 1, 2, 3 and 4, and drivers A and B
