The curricular practices of Geography Teachers in Basic Education in Brazil have several nuances, especially when articulating practices in schools in a context border. Brazil borders 10 countries in South America, and in the region North there are 07 international borders, that is, more than half. Diversity cultural and geographical aspects of the border territories of the Northern Region, become important aspects about Brazilian identity and geographic education as a link between two or more nationalities. As a research problem, we sought to understand the following question: “to what extent does the construction of the concept of territory in practices curriculum of Geography teachers at CEM XVI Cicero Vieira Neto helps to think about Brazil/Venezuela border issues?” In the focus of this dissertation, we have objective to analyze the curricular practices of Geography teachers under the concept of territory in high school at the Colégio Estadual Militarizado Cicero Vieira Neto in Pacaraima/RR. Therefore, the research has a qualitative approach to analysis, where it can be concluded that in the curricular practices of Geography teachers in CEM XVI High School there is no mobilization regarding border issues Brazil/Venezuela. Regarding the teaching plans of Teaching Geography teachers Medium, these do not have any articulation regarding the specificities of the border, needing to dialogue with teachers, the State Department of Education and Sports of Roraima – SEED for greater mobilization regarding the use of the Curricular Document of Roraima – DCRR linked to the specificities of the border, especially linked to School Geography.

  • The geography of crime in the municipality of Boa Vista (RR) has been analyzed in this research focusing on the socio-spatial diffusion of Criminal Organizations in the urban territory and on the case study of the Vila Jardim housing complex, located in the neighborhood of Cidade Satélite since 2015 up to 2023. The problem that the study intends to answer is based on the following question: how are the activities of Criminal Organizations characterized in Boa Vista and the Vila Jardim Housing Complex? The general objective of this dissertation is to analyze the organized crime and its territoriality in Boa Vista/RR, as well as to characterize the actions of the criminal organization Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) in the vertical condominiums of Vila Jardim housing complex. The methodological approach of the research is based on the use of the deductive method, characterized by an exploratory ad descriptive agenda regarding to the ends and a qualitative-quantitative approach regarding to the means. On the one hand, the data collection procedures started with an integrative review, a bibliographic and documentary review and a case study with fieldwork. On the other hand, data analysis procedures were based on the use of geographic and legal hermeneutics, graphic, schematic, iconographic and geospatial analysis. The results captured in the research demonstrate that the urban geography of organized crime in Boa Vista has an institutional evolution from the first groups of young offenders (galeras) until reaching maturation within the prison system through national criminal organizations, Primeiro Comando da Capital ( PCC) and Comando Vermelho (CV) and the membership of Venezuelan groups, Tren de Aragua and Tren Guayana. In territorial expansion process, the PCC leaders took advantage of a window of opportunities generated by the gentrification of a marginalized region dominated by drug trafficking in the central-south zone, known as Beiral, which led to its displacement to the West Zone of the municipality, especially for Vila Jardim housing complex, which has become PCC´s general headquarters and drug trafficking distribution center. It is concluded based on the results presented that the public authorities have generated vectors for the socio-spatial adaptation of organized crime in the urban territory of Boa Vista.

  • The Land Law regulated private property mainly in agricultural areas of Brazil, thus increasing oligarchic powers with political connections to the imperial government. Many lost their right to own land and consequently the right to subsistence. Overall, access to land by the low-income population was hindered and little has been done over the years to make legal access to land possible. This process of alienation from land as an essential good continues to this day, and in the urban environment, informal occupations are common to most Brazilian cities. In the town of Bonfim, state of Roraima, a similar process of chaotic occupation has been taking place in areas not yet planned for housing, a process reinforced by the phenomenon of intense migrations from Venezuela. These areas do not have proper basic infrastructure for housing, such as water supply, sewage, electricity and asphalt paving, and yet regulatory mechanisms remain precarious. Thus, the present research approved by the UFRR Ethics Committee studied the process of irregular occupations in the more recent districts of Cidades Novas, 13 de Maio and Getúlio Vargas in inner town Bonfim within the 2011-2021 time frame. The research began with bibliographical survey, observations and photographic records. Primary data were collected from 20% of a total of 230 families residing in these areas, and also from thirteen public agents involved with these policies. Lastly, the areas were mapped out and the results were analyzed. The present discussion shows the need to implement public policies for inhabited areas and to improve the legal mechanisms for the housing sector in the town area of Bonfim. This aims to minimize conflicts between residents and to ensure effective entitlement in the city by means of legal instruments such as the Participatory Urban Plan and the Land Donation Law for housing, which are well established at the municipal level.

  • Environmental impacts in watersheds interfere with the availability of water resources and the environmental quality of the ecosystem and may compromise food production. The watershed of the Carrapato creek, the study site for this research, located in the rural area of the municipality of Boa Vista, in the State of Roraima, is inserted in the Savannah biome, being one of the most important drainages on the left bank of the Cauamé river, and which in recent years, it has been undergoing transformations in its landscape, resulting from various human activities such as agribusiness, family farming, livestock, fish farming, fruit growing, spa/leisure sites. And these activities make massive use of water resources, mainly in irrigation. The objective of this research was to analyze the environmental impacts resulting from human activities in the basin. For this, a bibliographical, documentary and field survey was carried out. The field stage was carried out in two distinct climatic moments, in the dry season and in the rainy season, in order to observe the hydrological behavior of the basin and the elements integrated therein. Photographic surveys were also carried out using a drone and surface photography of some specific points of the physiography of the area that characterizes the landscape of the basin. The environmental impacts identified in loco, have a direct relationship with the anthropic activities carried out in the basin, such as minings, large-scale agriculture and bathing and energy production, and were classified according to the checklist, the cheklist. A map of the basin's land cover was prepared, quantifying the proportion in area and the percentage that each class occupies, such as: grassy savannah (40%), arboreal savannah (18%), footpath (4%), riparian forest (2%), cultivation (4%), exposed soil (4%), urbanization (5%), body of water (1%), basin area (22%), in addition to identifying the impacts, where the exposed soil class appears through the removal of vegetation cover, which is an impact with greater emphasis coming from different sources and origins, being related to various human activities in the basin, and thus suggesting mitigating measures for the recovery of areas with some type of degradation.

  • The present dissertation proposed realize a multitemporal analyze of the last 40 years of the use and cover of the land in urban expansion areas of Boa Vista, visioning your geoenvironmental diagnose. The city of Boa Vista, capital of the State of Roraima is North bathed by the Caumé river and at East by the Branco; on South and West of the city occurs the presence of lakes and creeks. In relation to the methodological procedures, on the first phase it was realized the bibliographic lifting referring to the concepts of use and cover of the land in urban expansion areas of Boa Vista and your socioenvironmental implications on the diversity of the landscape, impacts, risks and vulnerability of uses and occupations of the ground in areas of APPs. Cartographic surveys were carried out on digital platforms of public institutions that have the geospatial database, applying techniques through the remote sensing and geoprossesing on the manipulation in SIG environment. The data processing where realized through the Google Earth Pro software and the QGIS program version 3.4, both free to use. On the last years the urban expansion of Boa Vista grew in direction to the West Zone of the city, local where are concentrated the lacustrine systems and the APPs. The urban expansion of Boa Vista is visible on lavrado areas, forests, riparian forests, where the urban mesh advances above these elements of the landscape. The results show the socioenvironmental impacts of the urban expansion over the lacustrine systems and the vegetal riparian coverage are evident on the cases of suppression and alteration of water course’s. Landfills, canalization, rectification and concreting banks of the creeks are form’s of violation of the environmental legislation and compromises the ecological functions of the hydric resources. This damages are related to the lack of planning of the use and cover of the earth suitable for urban zoning, that should respect the permanent preservation areas and the natural characteristics of the territory.

  • Social Cartography is considered an essential tool for analyzing the socio-environmental, economic and cultural dynamics existing in traditional urban or rural communities. Therefore, the interest in developing this research arose through carrying out practical activities that involved Social Cartography while still in the undergraduate training process, through participation in a research laboratory, as well as after participating in a geographic expedition, in which this one had as investigation place the Lower White River region. This study has the general objective of promoting, through Social Cartography, an analysis of the dynamics of land use and developing an integrated and participative diagnosis of the Sacaí Riverside Community, in Lower White River-RR. The community is geographically located in the southern region of the state of Roraima, in the municipality of Caracaraí, on the right bank of the White River. In this perspective, it was noticed the lack of research that uses Social Cartography as a tool in this scientific context of that locality. Thus, the methodology proposed here is based on the fragmentation in three moments that are considered crucial for carrying out the work, namely: I) First Stage (Academic/Pre-Field), with the completion of bibliographic research and documents; II) Second Stage (Field), at this moment Social Cartography techniques were developed, as well as the application of interviews and; III) Third Stage (Academic/Post-Field), with the development of laboratory research, through the systematization of collected data and posteriorly the making of maps. Thus, this work resulted in the development of an integrated and participative diagnosis of the limitations, problems and potential of the traditional riverside territory with the promotion of empowerment and management in the local and community space through Social Cartography. Finally, this study was aimed at understanding the dynamics of the use of the territory, as well as the territoriality and socio-environmental, economic and cultural organization of the Riverside Community of Sacaí.

  • The present work is about the challenge of the practice of developing livestock projects through agriculture in indigenous communities in Roraima, specifically in the Jabuti Indigenous community, composed of Macuxi and Wapixana peoples who inhabit the Indigenous Land of the same name, Jabuti, in the municipality of Bonfim. Since the majority of indigenous communities in Roraima still maintain a subsistence agriculture culture, and in view of this perspective, in order to develop a way of agricultural production in their territories that is different from the conventional one, many communities have sought to change the way of managing agriculture in their lands, as is the case of this Indigenous Land. In a territory of 14,210 hectares, ratified in 1996 under decree 1775, they are seeking to equate the development of productive activities aiming at environmental, cultural, economic, and social sustainability. From the agricultural projects installed in this territory, the indigenous people seek to expand and make effective their source of income, breaking the paradigm of subsistence economy, since it is an area that has significant land subsidies, because in such an extension of the area, only this community usufructs the whole territory. Therefore, this research sought to analyze the projects installed in this Indigenous Land, describing the problems faced during the years 2021-2022 in developing these projects and whether in fact they contributed to the economic and social development of the indigenous population in question.

  • Health Geography is increasingly present in discussions related to the urban space, in view of its great contribution in the attempt at a holistic analysis of urban/health relations. Thus, the general objective that guided the construction of this study is to analyze the spatial distribution of notifiable diseases related to Basic Sanitation in the urban perimeter of the municipality of Boa Vista, capital of the state of Roraima (2010 - 2019). Based on this objective, it is emphasized that the spatial cut is limited to the urban perimeter of the referred municipality. With regard to methodological procedures, the research is deductive in nature, using exploratory and descriptive techniques, and a quali-quantitative approach. The results obtained through the present research revealed strong relationships between Inadequate Basic Sanitation (SBI) and the incidence of notifiable diseases, considering that the predominance of these diseases were verified and spatialized in the urban perimeter, revealing that the areas with the worst indicators of SBI are the locations that had the most occurrence of such diseases. Thus, the analysis of such sensitive issues in the municipal panorama is an important tool to help the understandings about the problems that deal with basic sanitation and population health, noting the various and multiple connections of these themes, relationships that can subsidize propositions on the theme and public policies that make access to basic services for maintaining health more equitable.

  • The Cauamé River Hydrography Basin (CRHB) concentrates most of the population of the state of Roraima, with important industrial and agropastoral activities that have progressively demanded the increasingly intense use of water resources and the exploration of hydrogeological reserves. Given this scenario, the need arises to search for new sources of underground deposits, since there is an intense exploitation of the existing granular aquifer. Thus, the subject of this research was the understanding of the exploratory feasibility of the fractured aquifers of the basin with remote sensing techniques and geospatial analysis tools, that have been used in Brazil in several works that seek the evaluation and correlation of morpho-structural characteristics with areas. with hydrogeological exploratory potential. Therefore, the objective of this study was the morpho-structural analysis of the landscape for the recognition of possible areas of exploratory feasibility in underground aquifers in fractured zones of the Cauamériver basin, based on the application of photointerpretation techniques in remote sensing, geomorphological data studies and the use of hydrogeological metadata, available in public domain sites, supported whit field work. The results obtained allowed us to conclude the existence of a morphological relationship between the topographic and potentiometric surfaces. The relationship between the landforms and the aquifer systems in the CRHB is that the Granular Domain is predominantly associated with Fluvial Plains and Terraces (Aptf) and Undifferentiated Genesis Planes (Pi), while the Fractured Domain is associated with the convex (Dc) and concave (Da) dissection, while Tabular Dissected (Dt) is sometimes associated with the Granular Domain, and sometimes with the Fractured Domain. The hydrogeological feasibility map identified two classes: Medium and High to Very High, in which the first constitutes almost 99% of the CRHB area, represented by all landforms, with the exception of Aptf, which falls in the upper class. very high and that occurs along the main channel of the Cauamé River, and its discontinuity is due to the presence of rocks from the Apoteri Formation. The results suggest that the actual condition of the aquifer present in the western part can left to one side by insufficient data from the wells. Given the relevance of providing detailed information on the characteristics of the reservoir for the implementation of adequate policies for the management underground source, it implies that more hydrogeological and geophysical studies are necessary to confirm its presence and extension, evaluating its viability of exploitation of this underground water. Finally hoping that the results of this study contribute to a sustainable management of these water resources in the region.

  • The formation of space is associated to the ways of production, which influence in the perception and valuation of lands. In this context, the Public Power plays an important function in the spatial organization process in cities. The norms on environmental protection and urban ordering, whose effectivity lies on the Public Power, proposes a control in relation to the usage of natural resources and its effects, ensuring the ecological and social equilibrium. The non-observancy of principles and devices be by action or omission (from enterprisers or public agents) may compromise the environmental quality. This environmental quality, related to the spatial conformation, is the starting point to the theme’s analysis, for in the geographic space it can be observed the realization of Society. Considering the comprehension of geographic space, alongside the transformations promoted by the man-society in the environment, one verifies that the implantation of a thermoelectric generator in a city, besides evidencing the way of production, results in landscape transformation. The present paper proposes itself then, to the discussion relative to electric energy and sustainable development as of the case of installation of a thermoelectric generator in isolated system in the Rorainópolis county, in the South of the state of Roraima. It is searched to contextualize the electric energy Generation with palm oil, approaching different scales of analysis, under a systemic focus, for the comprehension of landscape alterations, due to all the stages of this economic activity, as well as the transformations of socio spatial relations. Starting from the bibliographic and documental revision, the identification of the legal devices and pertinent public policies, well as the transmutations regionally verified. The expected results contemplate the verification of the processes associated to the ways of production which influenced in the spatial conformation of the study area, starting from the historical comprehension of the start of the occupation of lands in the South portion of Roraima, until the context of the implantation of the power plant, further on the transformations in the landscape promoted by this new productive circuit.

  • The generation of solid waste is intrinsic to human life, almost every human action generates some type of waste, either directly or indirectly. And over the years, the quantity and diversity of solid waste has grown, due to the economic and industrial transformations of recent decades. In this way, one must think about ways to dispose of waste in an environmentally appropriate way, to avoid socio- environmental impacts, in this sense, one of the most widespread techniques in the world is sanitary landfills. Therefore, this research aimed to select potential areas for the construction of a sanitary landfill for solid waste in the municipality of Boa Vista - Roraima, with a focus on minimizing socio-environmental impacts. Brazilian legislation has recommendations, rules and criteria that must be observed and followed when carrying out studies for leasing and building sanitary landfills, which aim to reduce and minimize socioenvironmental impacts and reduce operating costs. The process of choosing the criteria, as well as the definition of their restriction or aptitude, had as reference the legislation, technical norms, literature, availability of information, as well as the environmental and social importance of the criterion. The following were selected: distance from water resources, roads, population centers and airfields, existence of indigenous lands and areas of institutional use, degree of slope, land cover classes and soil suitability. To carry out the work, geotechnologies were used combined with multicriteria analysis, in which the AHP was chosen, as it is the method that best suits the objectives of this work, due to the possibility of integration of data and the combination of several attributes that can be obtained through the maps, in addition to allowing the hierarchical evaluation of the problem. With regard to the methodology of the work, it is emphasized that this proved to be satisfactory, since from the geotechnologies and the Analytical Hierarchical Process (AHP) method, it was possible to combine environmental, social and economic factors, which were later transformed into suitability and restriction criteria, making it possible to build a final product: the potential area map for the construction of the sanitary landfill. Regarding the results, it was identified that only 11% of the municipal territory was favorable for the implementation of the enterprise, and only 1% of the areas can be evaluated as optimal/suitable, a value that corresponds to only 6,740 hectares. The main restrictions of the municipality are related to the extensive drainage network of the municipality, formed mainly by streams and lakes. In addition, the Airport Security Area - ASA was a decisive factor for the unsuitability of areas, since the legislation determines an exclusion area of 20 km in geometric radius. Other decisive factors for the territory's inability are related to indigenous lands and settlement projects, which occupy a significant area. Therefore, the research opens the possibility for carrying out more in-depth studies, which can corroborate or refute the results presented here.

  • In the production process of urban space, there are places with a vocation for expansion, given their social and physical constraints. The focus of this study is the Vila Jardim housing complex, in the Cidade Satélite neighborhood in Boa Vista-RR located in the west of the city. The general objective is to perform a study on the spaces segregated by the government, highlighting the Vila Jardim complex in the Cidade Satélite neighborhood in the context of segregation induced by the state in Boa Vista-RR. As for the methodological procedures in a first stage, it began with a bibliographic research discussing about the concepts of space, social agents promoting urban space that acted in this process. From the application of a digital questionnaire via census takers in loco, we sought to verify the perception of residents of Vila Jardim about segregation induced by the government. The results led to identify that in the space of segregation induced by the state, the residents showed insatisfaction with safety, health and education, which significantly reflects on the valorization of urban space. The results obtained also allowed us to verify that despite some urban facilities, the residents are still segregated and consequently unattended by the government.

  • The Amazon presents a very diversified landscape, resulting in varied forms of relief, such as plains, depressions, residual plateaus and extensive pediplaned areas. This relief variation draws a true geological-geomorphological mosaic resulting from climatic oscillations and tectonic efforts that occurred in the region over geological time. Inserted in this landscape is Rorainópolis, a municipality in the south of the state of Roraima, in the extreme north of Brazil. In the surroundings of this municipality, there is the occurrence of residual reliefs molded into the granite that stand out in the extensive flattened areas. These granitic features exhibit varied shapes and sizes, with emphasis on features such as boulders, nubbins and block chaos, where smaller features such as karren/flutes, dissolution basins, tafonis, flared slop and split rock are also developed, in function of exposure to chemical and physical weathering actions. This research aims to carry out the mapping of the features molded in granite, in the surroundings of the seat of the municipality of Rorainópolis, south of the state of Roraima. In this sense, this research was based on bibliographic surveys and reflections on the concepts of landscape, relief and boulders-type relief features, seeking to relate them to a regional and local scale. The methodological procedures were based on the cartographic survey, which enabled the acquisition of remote sensing images, in addition to cartographic data of the study area. The field activities made it possible to obtain photographic images, with the use of a drone, to measure the morphometric measurements of the granitic features as well as to infer the punctual location of these features, which made it possible to create thematic maps. It is observed that the local landscape presents a series of micro features associated with the granitic environment, such as boulders, nubbins and block chaos, with boulders being the most common features. These landforms, also known as saprolitic landforms, come from an alteration mantle, which has a pedogenetic phase when they are formed and another morphogenetic phase, when the granite body is removed and exhumed. After its exhumation, the granitic features are exposed to chemical and physical weathering, developing several micro forms. In the studied area, the most commonly found microforms associated with granite are the Karren/Curlings, Dissolution Basins and Split Rock and, to a lesser extent, other types of microforms were identified, such as Tafonis, Marmitas and Flared Slopes. These microforms contribute to the complete destruction of the blocks, until they become imperceptible in the landscape, thus demonstrating the different stages of evolution of the granitic landscape in Rorainópolis-RR. Thus, this research work intends to serve as a subsidy to more detailed studies on the geomorphology in the state of Roraima, especially the boulders type geomorphological features evidenced in the surroundings of the seat of the municipality of Rorainópolis.

  • The territorial dynamics of the state of Roraima arises from the policy of encouraging the occupation of the Amazon region. The formation of urban agglomerations along the newly opened highways is seen as opportunities for those who want to succeed along the path through this country. The policy aims to analyze the application of Agrarian Reform research in the state of Roraima from the Jatapú Rapid Settlement Project – PAR Jatapú. For this, it was necessary to approach the Agrarian Reform policy in the state of Roraima, from the years 1970 to 2020. The period of the 70's coincides exactly with the process of construction of highways along the Amazon region, which culminated in the attraction of people coming mainly from the Northeast region of the country. The consolidation of what is now the Jatapú settlement is reflected in its productive activity, such as bananas and livestock. To identify this productive arrangement and the advance of the agricultural frontier in PAR Jatapú is to understand that its socio-spatial dynamics are increasingly being modified by producers from other regions who emigrated with the aim of conquering new properties at a more affordable price. To guide the research, the application of the inductive method was demanded, followed by a technique that aims at open questions, that is, a questionnaire with semi-structured questions followed by an observation form was chosen. The research results were only possible from the field experience and the interviews given along the side roads. Therefore, through the life experience of the settlers, it was possible to identify that the region of PAR Jatapú has been gaining a new dynamic. Taking away the characteristic of a settlement commanded by small landowners and highlighting the arrival of the holders of capital, who benefit from the fragility of the small to be able to agglutinate extensive portions of land.

  • In the last decades, dune fields attributed to wind activity have been identified through analysis of remote sensor products and aerial photographs in “remote” places in the Amazon, in particular in the states of Amazonas and Roraima. Sandy paleodune fields with tens of kilometers in length were identified, their genesis has been associated with wind activity in the driest periods of the Last Glacial Maximum. For this reason, a study was carried out in a paleodune located southwest of the city of Boa Vista-RR, in the stretch between BR-174 and Rio Branco, near Serra Grande. Analyzes of the textural parameters allied to the analysis of facies of the sedimentary deposit were carried out, which allowed to understand the mechanisms of sedimentation and hydrodynamic conditions of the deposit. The morphological and sedimentological data of this paleodune helped in understanding its origin and depositional processes, as well as in its relief differentiation and sedimentary interconnection with the associated deposits of the Boa Vista Formation and the Alluvial deposits, as well as the paleodune evolution associated with aeolian activity together with the displacements of the ITCZ to the southern hemisphere, associated with the main paleoclimatic events that acted in the Amazon and South America in the Late Pleistocene-Holocene. Thus, there is a clear relationship of reworking of the sediments from the Boa Vista Formation and the bars of the Rio Branco alluvial plain for the formation of the paleodune deposits in question. Evidencing the fluvial-eolian interaction in the evolution of the paleodune.

  • The Canauini riverside community is one of seven communities belonging to the municipality of Caracaraí. Located in the region called Baixo Rio Branco in the south of the State of Roraima, within the perimeter of the Rio Preto tract and the Territory of the Xeruini Environmental Protection Area (APA). The community has already undergone countless socio-territorial transformations due to changes in geographic location, space-transforming agents and water cycles in the Lower Rio Branco. Thus, this dissertation had the general objective of understanding the socio-territorial dynamics of the Community, having as theoretical support the concepts of Territory, Territoriality and Riverside Community in three dimensions: Territory / Territoriality, Economic and Cultural. The method adopted was of a descriptive and exploratory character, seeking to adopt a perspective of totality in order to understand the socio-territorial dynamics of the place, through the case study and orality. Two fieldwork was carried out using technical and instrumental procedures such as questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, direct observation in places where economic, religious and sporting activities take place and informal conversations (oral narrative), as well as the use of the positioning system (GPS), photographic and audiovisual records and bibliographic and documentary survey. Based on information collected and thematic maps, tables and graphs, it was possible to understand the socio-territorial dynamics of the community, considering the territorialities of the riverside inhabitants. The results showed us the geohistory of the Community, the circuits of lives, its form of organization, the population and economic aspects as well as the life of this community.

  • The great development projects involving infrastructure construction, such as hydroelectric power plants, feature as common traits on local impacts, regional or territorial, typified as changes on population structure, like work, organization and land use, political framework, culture and ecosystems. In the Amazon, the government has designed and implemented the construction of several hydroelectric power plants (HPP). In this context, in the state of Roraima, it is intended to be built Bem Querer HPP, which is under environmental impact studies, causing debates about the socioenvironmental effects and its benefits in an economic perspective to the state. The present research intends to map soil use and cover in the area scope of the project; quantify soil use and occupation, elaborate an area change predictive model; and, at the end, discuss the possibilities of renewable energy sources in Roraima. For the development of this research, experimental and bibliographic research methods were used. To prepare the land use and land cover maps, CBERS-4 satellite images were used, applying Arcgis 10.1, QGIS 2.18.1 for data processing. In order to carry out the flooding effects projections for the Bem Querer HPP, land use, land cover and flood buffer zone data were used. The results point out that the influence area of the Bem Querer HPP is 2,433.98 Km², divided into six classes of land use and land cover, such as water bodies 24.57% (127.56 km²), urbanized area 0.01% (0.04 km²), sandbank 2.34% (12.12 km²), livestock and agricultural activity 11.06% (57.43 km²), forest 59.78% (310.36 km²) and savannah 2.25% (11.69 km²). The predictive model of changes in land use and land cover affected by the reservoir will cover an area of 519.21 km². With these results, it was possible to verify the possible changes and impacts to be caused by the Bem Querer HPP installation. At the end, the possibilities of renewable energy sources and new horizons for electric energy production in Roraima are also discussed.

  • The areas of water bodies are of great environmental and urban importance, as, in addition to being responsible for important environmental interactions, their multiple functions started to contribute to the structuring of cities and, consequently, to integrate the urban landscape. Thus, this research aimed to analyze the effects of land use on the water quality of the Grande and Auai Grande streams, located in an area of urban influence in the city of Boa Vista - RR. For the development of this research, the qualitative-quantitative methods and exploratory approach were used. LandSat 8 satellite images and cartographic bases provided by the Municipality of Boa Vista (PMBV) and by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) were used in the preparation of land use and occupation maps, processed in a software environment. Corel Draw Graphics 2020 and Quantum GIS 3.18, via the Quick Map Services digital processor complement. Obeying the recommendations of NBR No. 9898 of June 1987, covering the dry and rainy periods, the collections were carried out in June and September 2019 and in April and October 2020, in each of the three sampling points defined along the two streams. According to the methodologies described by the American Public Health Association (APHA), the parameters temperature, pH, electrical conductivity, turbidity, total solids, dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen demand, total coliforms and E. Coli were analyzed in the Effluent Laboratory of the Roraima Water and Sewage Company (CAER) and the results were compared to CONAMA Resolutions nº 357/2005 and nº 274/2000. The statistics of the results were subjected to analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Tukey test at 5% probability. The results showed that the micro basin areas of the Grande and Auai Grande streams have different use and occupation. While the first is marked by an intense human presence, especially by the installation of the municipality's stabilization pond on its banks, the second, with less urban characteristics, has the sanitary landfill as the main class of use and occupation. Thus, the variance tests showed for all parameters, except for total solids, OD and BOD, the condition of occurrence of significant variability between the results of the rainy and dry seasons of the two streams. Another relevant aspect concerns the collection points located near the landfill and the stabilization pond. Of which, almost unanimously, presented in all samples of the dry and rainy periods, contamination levels higher than the points upstream and downstream to them, thus indicating the constant contribution of polluting load in these specific regions, that is, both the landfill and the stabilization pond are negatively affecting the water quality of the streams. In general, through the results of the analyses, it was possible to conclude that the waters of both streams are considered unsuitable for use, according to the standards established by CONAMA Resolutions nº 357/2005 and nº 274/2000.

  • In recent decades, the Geography of Health has taken on an even more prominent place, not only regarding the study of spatial variations of diseases, but also on the health-disease process determined by socio-environmental conditions, which has expanded the explanations and helped in the understanding of arboviruses, diseases already assumed to be a major Public Health problem and great social and economic impacts. So much so that contemporary Brazil is the country with the highest number of reported cases of arboviruses, and Boa Vista, capital of Roraima, after years of eradicating dengue, in 1981, was responsible for the return of the disease to the country, which since then, began to suffer recurrent epidemics not only of dengue, but also of Zika and chikungunya. This study, therefore, aims to analyze the spatial distribution of arboviruses (dengue, zika, chikungunya and yellow fever) and their socio-environmental determinants in the urban area of Boa Vista, Roraima between 2010 and 2019, based on the identification, characterization and cartographic representation of the census sectors with the highest occurrences. Therefore, the methodology used an exploratory and descriptive analysis, supported by a bibliographical and documental research based on the Geosystemic Method and on statistical and geoprocessing techniques. The results showed that the local and environmental characteristics of Boa Vista, such as rainfall, slope, river network, lack or precariousness of sanitation services, income and education, favored the increased proliferation of the vector mosquito and, thus, of the cases of arboviruses, a situation observed, with greater intensity, in the neighborhoods in the west zone. Boa Vista was responsible for 66% (R$ 582,901.40) of the total expenses of hospital admissions in the State of Roraima; it was also the 3rd capital of the North Region with the highest expenses in hospitalizations for arboviruses. Finally, it was highlighted that for the control of vectors and arboviral epidemics, in Boa Vista, isolated combat actions are not enough, joint attitudes are needed against the multifactorial aspects that determine such diseases.

  • The spatial arrangement and intra-urban transformations occur through the action of various agents that promote space.  The research included the Cidade Satelite neighborhood, located in the western urban area of the Boa Vista city. The general objective of this study was to understand the intra-urban transformations in the Cidade Satelite neighborhood in Boa Vista, Roraima and its consequences, from the implementation of housing development, valuation of the space due to the improvement of infrastructure, commercial dynamics and changes in the construction pattern.  In relation to the methodological procedures in a first phase, a bibliographical research was carried out addressing the concept of space and the agents that produce urban space that operate in this dynamic.  The application of a questionnaire was carried out in order to verify the residents' perception about the transformations and the valorization of the urban space.  The results showed that the changes that took place in Cidade Satelite are products of the action of both the Government, the real estate sector and the residents in the process of production and reproduction of the urban space.

  • This research aims to analyze the socio-spatial and economic dynamics of the Sucuriju settlement project and its agrarian impact in the city of Rorainópolis-RR. The methodology is based on descriptive and explanatory bibliographic and documentary research under a qualitative approach. As for the methodological procedures to achieve the results, the study used field research and on-site observation to obtain interviews and oral reports. As a result, the research highlights that the lack of public policies prevents men from settling in the countryside. INCRA only settled the farmers, but did not give them the necessary assistance, whether federal, state or even municipal. Settlers live abandoned by the government, but even so, those who resist are living on their lots and producing, albeit with difficulty. Approaching another angle of this issue, the research confirms its raised hypothesis, that the Sucuriju settlement, in the economic aspect, does not totally depend on Rorainópolis-RR, since the settlers can sell their products with other commercial centers, such as, for example, Boa Vista, or even the capital of Amazonas, Manaus. However, there is a lack of incentives from the public authorities in the three spheres.
